IN HARMONIE JOURNEY: PRACTICES

Movement five of the in Harmonie Journey is all about Practices; ways to participate in rest, restoration and reconciliation.

Over the next three months we will be digging deeper into the practices of rest, restoration and reconciliation, offering ways that you can bring change in your own life, and reach a place of greater harmony.

STEP 1: INTRODUCTION: IN HARMONIE PRACTICES

STEP 2: TAKE TIME

TO REFLECT

  • What exhausts you or keeps you working past your limits?
  • When and where do you most deeply rest?
  • Who helps you rest?

“My soul finds rest in God alone.” David (Ps 62:1)

STEP 3: TEXT & THEORY

“Christian practices are not activities we do to make something spiritual happen in our lives. Nor are they duties we undertake to be obedient to God. Rather, they are patterns of communal action that create openings in our lives where the grace, mercy, and presence of God may be made known to us. They are places where the power of God is experienced. In the end, these are not ultimately our practices but forms of participation in the practice of God.”

Craig Dykstra

Which areas in our lives need our attention?

STEP 4: PRACTICE OF WHOLENESS

Invite God to speak to you through your body:

  1. Are you embarrassed by it?
  2. Do you enjoy it?
  3. What happens when you consider the idea of honouring your body?

“Have you forgotten that your body is now the sacred temple of the Spirit of Holiness, who lives in you? You don’t belong to yourself any longer, for the gift of God, the Holy Spirit, lives inside your sanctuary.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19

STEP 5: LISTEN TO A CONVERSATION

“To live your life in a way that helps others on this journey to become more like Christ, is to invest in the next generation. It’s not just living for myself but to live in a way that is self-sacrificing, where others can see Christ more clearly.”

Edwin Fillies has served with YWAM for the last 34 years. In our latest podcast episode, in Harmonie CEO Johan Beukes and Fillies talk about context, disharmony and change, as well as practices that lead to harmony.

At the end of the podcast you will find a Practice of Wholeness to follow.

STEP 6: EXPERIENCE AN IN HARMONIE MOMENT

“One of the most important things I’ve learnt here is to be present in the moment and present in my own story. It’s easier to focus on what’s wrong in others, what’s wrong in the world, but it takes courage to dig deeper into yourself, to be present in your own pain, in your own insecurities, your own heartache.”

Ivor Price, Co-Founder of Food for Mzanzi, Journalist, Media Personality, shares his thoughts on the importance of rest and silence.

STEP 7:  SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE
